THE RICH HISTORY OF THE PROVINCE
The History of the Provincial Grand Lodge begins in the middle of the 18th Century with the tentative early establishment of the Provinces in Scotland. The first recorded Provincial Grand Master of the area now known as Forfarshire was George Paterson of Castle Huntly who was appointed in 1797, at that time and until 1815 the Province, known at times as Dundee and District, Dundeeshire and the Forfarshire was only ruled by a Provincial Grand Master, without the support of a Provincial Grand Lodge. That was established in 1815 when the then Provincial Grand Master Brother the Rt Hon William Maule 1st Lord Panmure appointed commissioned office bearers and formally established the 'Provincial Grand Lodge of Forfarshire'
