Killed 9th May 1917.

Private James R. E. Wood, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, was the youngest son of Colin Wood, Coach-builder, and of his wife Mary Brand, 6 Academy Street, Arbroath.

He was twenty-five years of age and unĀ¬married. Before joining the army he was employed at the works of Messrs Douglas Fraser & Sons. In November 1915 he enlisted as a private in the Scottish Horse, but was afterwards transferred to the Black Watch, and later to the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.

He served in Salonika, and was reported missing between the 8th and 9th of May 1917. Ten months later he was officially reported as presumed killed on that date.
