In 1914 the First World War began. During the Great War, the Lodge assisted the War Effort in many ways. For example, the Lodge supported the War Relief Fund (Belgium) and invested in War loan stock as well as donating funds to the Scottish Hospital for Limbless Sailors and Soldiers. The Lodge even donated field glasses to the Scottish Horse.
On 23rd May 1919 a dinner was held for brethren who had served in the forces during the Great War. The evening offered an opportunity to honour those who had served with distinction and to also remember those who had made the supreme sacrifice.
On the 15th May 1921, a special meeting and Funeral Lodge was held within the Guild Hall, Montrose. The occasion marked the unveiling of a Roll of Honour for members of the Lodge who had fallen in the Great War.
